•Tom: N/AEm Em I must have left my house at eight B7 because I always do My train I'm certain left the Em station just when it was due I must have read the morning paper D going into town And having gotten through the editorial no doubt I must have G frowned I must have made my desk around a D7 quarter after nine With letters to be read and heaps of G papers waiting to be signed C Em I must have gone to lunch at half past twelve or so Am The usual place the usual bunch Am7 And still on top of this I'm pretty B7 sure it must have rained Em The day before you came Em I must have lit my seventh B7 cigarette at half past two And at the time I never even noticed Em I was blueI must have kept on dragging through D the business of the day Without really knowing anything I G hid a part of me away At five I must have left there's no D7 exception to the rule A matter of routine I've done it G ever since I finished school C The train back home again Em Undoubtedly I must have read the Am evening paper then Am7 Oh yes I'm sure my life was well B7 within it's usual frame Em The day before you came E C° A° B7 E E° Em B7 Em (*) Em I must have opened my front door at B7 eight o'clock or so And stopped along the way to buy Em some Chinese food to go I'm sure I had my dinner watching D something on TV There's not I think a single episode G of Dallas that I didn't see I must have gone to bed around a D7 quarter after ten I need a lot of sleep and so I like G to be in bed by then C I must have read a while Em The latest one by Marilyn French or Am something in that style Am7 It's funny but I had no sense of B7 living without aim Em The day before you came C And turning out the light Em I must have yawned and cuddled up Am for yet another night Am7 And rattling on the roof I must B7 have heard the sound of rain Em The day before you came E C° A° B7 E E° Em B7 Em x2 (*)
